The Heavy Crude Oil Pipeline in its policies privilege health and safety at the workplace; as such, the Company has within its organizational chart the Medical Services Department along with a Health and Safety Unit, managed by specialized professionals in each topic.
The commitment expressed by the Company’s Top Management has allowed implementation and integration of a Workplace Health and Safety Management System following the lead by the International Labor Organization, the Andean Instrument for Health and Safety at the Workplace, and the current legal framework of Ecuador.
The Workplace Health and Safety Management System includes Administrative Management, Technical Management, Human Resource Management, and Basic Operational Processes.
This allows the Company to implement the general framework through which commitment is shown in the Prevention of Work-related Risks at every level and sectors of production, thus establishing an annual basis for organizational objectives in order to preserve health, safety, and the working environment.
In our Company, Technical Management is carried out through the integration of the identification, evaluation, and control of labor-related risk factors in a qualitative and quantitative manner for each job position or production sector. Added to this, we have developed health monitoring program for employees that includes: pre-employment examinations, occupational examinations, re-hiring examinations, retirement examinations, immunization programs, epidemiological monitoring specific to identified significant risks, and water and food monitoring.
Human Resource Management
Following a strict selection process, personnel incorporated into our Company receives information and training in identified work-related risk factors through graphs created for each job post. Furthermore, the Company has established internal and external communication channels so that both parties may receive official information. HEALTH, SAFETY, AND ENVIRONMENTAL TRAINING
Training, Preparation, and Coaching of the Human Resource working directly or indirectly for our Company or through the provision of goods and services in issues relating to health, safety, or the environment, is essential in preventing incidents, accidents, occupational illnesses, and environmental impacts. This is achieved through various mechanisms such as:
Health, Safety, and Environmental Induction: This is imparted to every person who enters the Company’s facilities for the first time, addressing basic health, safety, and environmental norms and emergency response.
Daily Meeting: This is imparted mandatorily to all persons at the Pipeline’s oil stations and terminals at the onset of their workday. During this meeting, updated technical information is analyzed and transmitted concerning health, safety, and environmental concerns, along with emergency response, operation, and maintenance issues.
Training: Imparted to personnel involved in various issues such as: peer committee functions, prevention of labor risks, current legal norms, handling of hazardous materials, confined spaces, safety analysis at the workplace, socialization of the Environmental Management Plan, environmental performance, labor-related accidents, and first aid.
