Esmeraldas, December 14, 2018. The Members of the Isla Piedad Fishing Production Cooperative will receive two new vessels delivered by OCP Ecuador. These vessels will allow 45 fishermen of this cooperative to improve productivity and optimize their activities.
"We always seek to maintain supportive relations with the communities where we are present; we want to support the economic and social development of the inhabitants of Isla Piedad. We make this contribution because we think it will help improve the fishermen's work", Francisco Montalvo, OCP Ecuador Corporate Affairs Manager, stated.
The investment in these two vessels was US$ 9,000 and included training in regulations and legislation of the fishing sector, good fishing practices, management of SMEs and marketing. This delivery was additional to two other vessels and two engines that were delivered by the company in 2014. This way, the cooperative will have 30 vessels in total.
For Obidio Quiñonez, the manager of the Isla Piedad Fishing Production Cooperative, these type of projects have not only improved the quality of life of the inhabitants, but have also represented a better future for children and young people. “Now, we have tools to expand our work activities and we also have projects that have allowed our young people to start thinking about going to university, he said.
Since 2014, the company has supported the Isla Piedad neighborhood through social and productive projects, investing more than US$ 56,000. These projects included a beauty and hair-styling salon managed by young people of the neighborhood and contributions made to the Cooperative during prior years. And since 2006, the Angel Barbisotti High School, which has more than 1200 students.
The vessels, which are six meters long, were delivered during a ceremony full of joy, with the participation of music bands and the members of the Cooperative, who proudly showed their new vessels.
